The character of the new residential district of Wegscheid alternates between urban and rural. The development structure of linear and punctual elements gives the district its own character. The result is spatially rhythmically defined open spaces with a self-evident address. The greenery flows into the courtyard structure of the buildings in the shape of a finger. The development rises from north to south from 2 to 5 storeys and plays with the surrounding buildings thanks to the staggered heights.
The car-free development is accessed via green residential paths and offers good connections between the train station and specialist stores. Sound insulation is achieved through arcades and a strategic orientation of the apartments. Communal areas, a therapy garden and “urban gardening” promote social interaction.
The concept is based on a clear, minimalist choice of materials, high energy efficiency thanks to district heating and a sophisticated ventilation solution for a pleasant indoor climate.
