Since 2002, quartier21’s Artist-in-Residence program has established itself as a platform for contemporary, international art and cultural exchange. Currently, five studios are available to artists for working and living on the upper floor. AiRbase presents this support program in public space.
In five color-coded display cases—corresponding to the five studios—the artists currently in residence present themselves and their work. A mobile seating unit contains the publication “100 Artist in Residence/quartier21/MQ/2002-2006.”
The seating separates and connects the exhibition areas of “Freiraum,” “Tankstelle,” and “AIR-base,” allowing for open use of the space for installations, exhibition openings, lectures, and other events.
