Opposite the church, the new fire station will be preceded by a layer of space consisting
of a covered outdoor area, the village loggia, and the high viewing room. The sacred use defines the church square, which is not disturbed by commercial vehicles due to the lateral orientation of the fire station.
The fire station and rectory form a protected semi-public courtyard reminiscent of a village green, which is connected to the church square via a narrow passageway between the fire station and the rectory.
The details of the execution are up to the residents, depending on the skills and qualifications of each individual.
The political and church communities are working together to mobilize the residents of Großnondorf
to revitalize the village’s deserted center. The archdiocese is making the unused parish house, which is in dire need of renovation, available for public use (youth groups,
music room, self-marketing shop, team room, guest apartment) and the adjacent property for the construction of a new fire station. The construction and renovation are largely being carried out by the community itself. This architectural experiment involves a strong sense of identity building through the participation of the residents. The simple and clear structures define the central ensemble.
