A linear structure is positioned along Kriehubergasse, forming a buffer between the public street space and the school sports field. The remaining courtyard can be experienced as a spacious area. The niche of the current atrium to the south-east will be closed.
The aim is to provide the gymnasium center with daylight, to offer open, attractive access spaces both inside and outside the school and to largely preserve the existing trees. For this reason, the gymnasiums open up at the front to a band of skylights on one side and to the gallery of the checkroom level in the basement on the other.
“The project impresses with its three-dimensional development of the access, checkroom and ancillary space zone laid out along Kriehubergasse, which develops from the ground floor down to the second basement floor via a cascading staircase. The generous air spaces and circulation areas create a spatial-visual bridge from the public street space to the serially arranged four gymnasiums.”
