The geriatric center at Wienerwald is to be relocated by 2015 and housed in smaller decentralized geriatric centers. The new Parkstadt Hietzing is being built on the site. With just over 1,000 aparments meant for people of all ages. Infrastrucutre and recreational facailities are to be included. In a first construction segment, the renovation and extension of the former historically protected nursery into a kindergarden containing 9+1 groups, will be the first step, which is to be executed according to low-exergy building standards.
The entrance building, one axis of the greenhouses and the northern brick back wall will be preserved and renovated in accordance with the requirements of a historically protected building. The new building for the kindergarten integrates the old structure through a U-shaped building. The connection to the existing building is achieved through two fully glazed inner courtyards, which set the scene for the old building and generously allow light from the south into the multifunctional and partially two-story public zones.
