„Spirit of Mozart" is the adversiting slogan of the medial megaevent „Wien Mozart 2006" on the occasion of his 250th birthday.
This year the image of Mozart is dominating the public space in the centre of Vienna. Even more baroque dressed up ticket sellers, posters, stamps, „Calling Mozart" (audio-informationsystem at 100 places in the city), cups, tarts, Mozartballs and other figurative fan equipment all-around.
With an arrangement of a Mozart Museum at his former living place, a large exhibition in the Albertina and with a „Visual Sign and Ticketcentre for Mozart 2006" next to the State Opera House the year of Mozart is appearing in a constructional manner.
The urbanistic analysis of the site being in the beginning of the pedestrian area of Kärtnerstraße is dominated with sales promotion and demands a strong sign changing temporary these otherwise unattended space into a distinctive location.
Our project for the Infocentre WienMozart 2006 deals with the content in a semantic way. On the one hand the famous silhouette portrait of Mozart was chosen for character. The form plays with the organisers strategies for marketing.
But our architectural concept was imparting at an emotional layer what we are connecting with Mozart: the kittenish play, the cheeriness of his music and the extent of his devised opus.
626 steel columns, 6 meter tall are forming a musical landscape. They stand for the 626 works of the Köchelverzeichnis, every opus is written on a column. The red pillar wood has a strong visual charisma in all directions. Different and free arrangements of the red spears and sounding of the installation generates a exciting city furniture, an informal meeting place and a public space which is not availabe for commercial use.
The simple designing strategie of the red column abets a simple naming in the vernacular.
The project for „Calling Mozart", which is distributed at 100 workingplaces of Mozart in the city, repeats that concept. The creative oneness of infocentre and infopoint creates recognition of interventions all over the city and increases profile, effect and naming of the project.
A black panel for load distribution, which traces the historic silhoutte, is basis on top of the existing undergroung parking. The stage serves for a seat at border area and has ramps for handicaped people.
The ticketcentre, made of white glas, completes the visual sign with service capacity and is situated at the brim of the platform.
The basic elements - platform, column landscape, service furniture and translucent cladding are generating together the image of Mazart, without beeing visible in the observers layer.
