In recognition of the qualities of the overall ensemble, the church will remain part of the
community center and will be modified:
– Activation and enhancement of the building’s appeal by opening up the southeast corner.
– Differentiated zoning by setting back the courtyard facade.
The resulting colonnade leads into the church interior and the weekday chapel, providing a covered connection to the rectory.
A translucent wooden structure is implanted into the existing building structure to form the new worship space.
Psalm 104:2 Praise to the Creator:
“You wrap yourself in light as in a garment; you stretch out the heavens like a tent.”
In the south, the dress-like inner shell opens onto a glazed atrium, orienting the space towards the liturgical areas. This elevates the altar and ambo, making step-free access a matter of course and allowing for a variety of seating arrangements for the congregation.
The weekday chapel with its existing statue of Mary also faces
the inner courtyard planted with grapevines, which can only be entered for maintenance purposes.
In the shared wall between the church interior and the weekday chapel,
the tabernacle is positioned so that it is visible from both sides.
The baptismal font is located near the entrance and on the way to the altar area.
